    Sunset in Hurricane Rosa

The 2000 Atlantic hurricane season was above average, with eight hurricanes, seven tropical storms, and four tropical depressions. Only two tropical storms, Gordon and Helene, made landfall in the US (northern Florida). Hurricane Keith was the most destructive hurricane of the season, when it made landfall in Belize. There were 24 fatalities associated with Hurricane Gordon. Because no hurricanes struck the US this year, it may have seemed like a "quiet" year to many folks, but we still flew 80 missions to monitor the most threatening storms.

Atlantic storms we flew this season:
TD#01, TD#04, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Joyce, Keith, Leslie, Michael
East and Central Pacific storms we also flew:
    Carlotta , Daniel, Rosa
The National Hurricane Center website publishes technical reports about these storms. For more about hurricane names, go to USA Today, or NHC. For world-wide names, go to Landsea's FAQs.
